An architectural interlude on the Ionian coast
A House Framed by its Coast
Situated within the secluded reaches of southern Italy’s Ionian shoreline, the Alalunga Beach House begins with a clear architectural proposition: to frame experience through spatial economy and engagement with context. Clean volumes and a considered siting articulate a measured response to place. Emphasis is placed on orienting the plan toward light and horizon, capturing not only views but the nuanced interplay between interior stillness and seaward movement.
Spacial and Programmatic Clarity
The layout is resolved through an efficient organization that respects both program and place: three bedrooms and two bathrooms are arranged alongside an open kitchen that flows into the living area. Here, the spatial geometry privileges continuity, allowing domestic routines to unfold with unobstructed proximity to the outdoor environment. Carefully calibrated spatial thresholds balance enclosure and exposure, anchoring everyday life within a broader coastal rhythm.
A Threshold to the Sky
Completing the composition, a generously scaled rooftop terrace becomes the project’s atmospheric apex. Defined by the deep blue of the Ionian Sea, this elevated plane hosts a hot tub and a white wood shading system, encouraging both repose and reflection within an elemental sequence of sun, wind, and water. This rooftop — both destination and device — reinforces the architectural intent to celebrate horizon, weather and gentle sway of seasonal life.
