Where heritage meets crafted restraint—an architectural dialogue in the heart of Campo dei Fiori
Heritage, Presence, and Intent
Set within the picturesque context of Campo dei Fiori in Rome, this fully refurbished apartment begins with an acute awareness of its architectural presence. The project acknowledges the weight of historic details — wooden lacunars overhead and travertine portals defining spatial thresholds — as a primary condition to be preserved and celebrated. Rather than overwrite these elements, design choices operate through restraint, emphasizing continuity between past and present and allowing spatial memory to endure within contemporary living.
Furniture as Spatial Calibration
Within the unchanged volumetric framework, the selection and placement of furniture become pivotal moments of architectural articulation. Iconic modern pieces like the Jean Prouvé Potence lamp are positioned with intention, each establishing a calibrated dialogue with adjacent surfaces and voids. This considered assembly of objects does not merely occupy space but actively mediates the rhythms of daily life, reinforcing spatial hierarchies and spectral thresholds through compositional balance and material contrast.
Material Play and Refined Interventions
The refurbished bathroom exemplifies a design strategy rooted in contrast and precision: a field of pure white surfaces is juxtaposed with rich emerald green walls, generating a discreet yet potent spatial gesture. Such interventions — sparing, purposeful, and materially resolved — underscore the apartment’s dual logic of preservation and renewal. Every surface, colour block, and furnishing element participates in a cohesive narrative, where architectural intent emerges through measured restraint and deliberate encounter.
