The Art of Execution
In 2025, the challenge arose to bring Bvlgari’s immersive high jewelry event, Polychroma, to life within Taormina’s San Domenico Palace. As the entity leading the project management, the primary task was to translate a sophisticated design vision into a feasible, tailored reality. This involved inserting a self-contained, multi-sensory scenography within one of the hotel’s historic rooms. The project required a highly coordinated execution between management and the general contractor to harmonize this enclosed environment with the palace’s existing architecture.
Tailoring the Palette
Central to the execution was the management of a complex and noble material palette, designed to match specific jewelry gems across polychromic rooms. A tailored procurement and production process was required for materials like Roman Travertine, dynamic Rainbow Onyx, luminous Yellow Onyx, and Verde Alpi marble. The construction of the immersive environment also demanded an intensive material engineering effort, notably managing thousands of meters of pleated organza fabric needed to wrap the walls and create the ethereal, pleated atmosphere of the temporary exhibition.
Immersive Duality
The execution of the project successfully mediated between the enclosed, purely immersive experience and the palace’s historic character. While the interior scenography, culminating under a central dome, created a private ‘Roman’ sanctuary, the exhibition narrative was designed to flow outwards. This required managing the installation of the unique display structures in both the cloister and the former sacristy. In these spaces, the 14th-century Dominican heritage was intentionally left evident, allowing the contemporary display to engage directly with the genius loci.
