A luminous tree rises above the Spanish Steps, transforming a familiar Roman landmark into a fleeting constellation of light, symbols and festive imagination.
A Christmas Landmark
At the foot of Trinità dei Monti, in Piazza di Spagna, the installation reimagines the Christmas tree as a monumental urban gesture. Rising thirteen metres above the terrace of the Spanish Steps, the structure becomes a temporary landmark within the historic fabric of Rome. Conceived as a public installation, the project transforms a seasonal decoration into an architectural presence, bringing the festive language of Dior into one of the city’s most iconic spaces.
A Constellation of Symbols
The tree unfolds as a sculptural composition of light and ornament. A luminous white structure is animated by more than seven hundred golden butterflies, suspended like a shimmering swarm across its surface. Among them, glowing silhouettes of Dior’s iconic perfume bottles emerge as delicate objects of light. At its summit, a radiant star recalls the talisman of good fortune cherished by Christian Dior, completing a composition where symbolism and decoration merge.
An Ephemeral Celebration
Beyond its monumental scale, the installation acts as a collective moment for the city. The lighting ceremony transforms the square into a shared stage, where music, spectators and architecture converge in a public celebration of the festive season. For a brief winter period, the installation reshapes the perception of the square, layering contemporary imagery over the historic scenery and turning a familiar place into a luminous, temporary landscape.
